Category Mapping

Updated over a week ago

Some online marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, or Miinto require you to use their own category structures in the product feed. In Koongo, you can easily map your store categories to the corresponding marketplace categories.

To do this, you can use one or a combination of the Category Mapping options provided by Koongo: AI Category Mapping, Multi-Category Mapping, Single Category Mapping, Category Mapping with Conditions, and the Product Advanced mapping which allows mapping based on store attributes and values different from your standard category structure. These flexible tools are designed to simplify and speed up the mapping process, depending on your store’s setup and specific requirements.

You can access the Category Mapping options in:

  • Marketplaces → Product creation or listing wizards → Step: Categories

  • Feed Manager → Channel Profile → Category Mapping tab

🧠 AI category mapping (Beta)

The AI Category Mapping feature helps you speed up the setup process by automatically suggesting the most suitable channel categories (e.g., Bol, Zalando, Miinto) for your existing store categories — such as collections or product types.
This automation reduces manual work, improves mapping accuracy, and ensures consistent category alignment across your channels.

How It Works

  1. Open your product Category Mapping section.

  2. Click the AI Category Mapping button.

  3. Koongo automatically analyzes your store categories and suggests the most relevant channel categories (for example: eBay, Bol, or Zalando).

  4. Review the generated mappings and make manual adjustments if needed.

🖼️ The AI Category Mapping button appears in the Categories step of the product creation wizard.

Tips & Common Issues

Manual review is recommended after applying AI mapping.

Using AI Category Mapping will overwrite existing category rules.

This feature is available only for specific channels.

You can still refine mappings manually afterward to match your exact structure.

Multi category mapping

You can map several store categories to a single marketplace category easily in Koongo. This is particularly useful when multiple categories in your store share similar product types or attributes that align with one marketplace category. By consolidating these mappings, you can streamline your feed setup, reduce redundancy, and ensure consistent categorization across platforms.

How It Works

  1. Click the Add button.

  2. Search for a specific keyword within your store category, e.g. "Women". Then, select all "Pants" store categories.

  3. Search for a specific keyword in the marketplace category, e.g. "Belts". Select a specific "Belts & Stationary" marketplace category.

  4. The store categories are mapped to the marketplace category.

Single category mapping

You can map a specific store category to a single marketplace category in Koongo. This ensures accurate product classification and helps meet the marketplace’s category requirements. To easily identify and manage any categories that haven’t been mapped yet, simply click the Add Unmapped Categories button. This will display a list of all your store categories that still need to be linked to a corresponding marketplace category.

How It Works

  1. All your unmapped categories will be listed in the category mapping dashboard.

  2. Search for a specific keyword in the marketplace category area - e.g. "Dress". Next, select a particular "Dresses" marketplace category.

  3. Map all the store categories you'd like to use in your marketplace product feed. You can use the category filter to select just mapped categories for a specific product feed.

  4. The store category is mapped to the marketplace category

Category mapping with conditions

You can map a specific store category to a single marketplace category using an additional condition in Koongo. This allows for more precise control over which products are included in the mapping, based on specific attribute values.

Let’s say you want to map all products from your "Shoes" category that include the word "woman" in the Name attribute to the "Costume Shoes" marketplace category. By applying an additional condition, Koongo will only include products that match both the category and the attribute criteria, giving you greater flexibility and accuracy in your feed setup.

How It Works

  1. Tap the Add button.

  2. Search for a specific keyword in your store category (e.g., "women") and select the relevant category.

  3. Tap the AND button to define a condition:

    • Choose a specific attribute (e.g., "Name")

    • Select the condition "contains"

    • Enter the value to filter by (e.g., "shoes")

  4. In the marketplace category section, search for a keyword (e.g., "shoes") and select the appropriate sub-category from the marketplace.

  5. As a result, only the products from the "Shoes" store category that include the word "shoes" in the Name attribute will be mapped to the selected marketplace category.

Advanced Product Mapping

You can also use attributes other than the store category when mapping products to a marketplace category in Koongo. This allows for more advanced and flexible mapping based on your product data.

Let's say you want to map all products that have the value "shoe" in the Product Type attribute to the "Shoes" marketplace category, you can create a condition based on that attribute.

This is useful when your store categories are broad or not clearly aligned with the marketplace structure, and you prefer to rely on more specific product attributes for accurate mapping.

A rule created by the "Add Product Mapping (Advanced)" has a higher priority than the "Store Category" rule.

How It Works

  1. Select the Add Product Mapping (Advanced) option from the list.

  2. Choose the specific store attribute you want to use for category mapping.

  3. Change the condition from "is" to "contains" (if needed).

  4. Select the marketplace category you want to map to.

Please make sure to map each of your store categories to a single marketplace category. To ensure the category is accepted, always map to the lowest level of the marketplace category hierarchy.
